Lissette Cortes, PsyD

I am a Licensed Psychologist in the state of Florida and currently provide individuals, family and group therapy at Home For Balance Psychotherapy Group. I specialize in the treatment of eating disorders and comorbid conditions such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, anxiety disorders, depression, personality disorders and trauma.

I am a Cognitive-Behavioral therapist by training and specialize in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). My approach to treatment is based on creating an environment that supports a collaborative relationship in which goals are set in unison with my clients. I help my clients become more familiar with their own unhelpful thinking patterns, while developing more adaptive ways to cope with distress and to ultimately make supportive life changes. I support my clients in making changes to improve the quality of their lives by approaching otherwise avoided situations and obtaining self-confidence. I also facilitate improvements in family relationships by providing an environment where family members can feel comfortable in expressing their emotions, being heard and effectively communicating with one another.

During my training at Nova Southeastern University and throughout my clinical practice while living in South Florida, I have served multicultural populations. I was born in Bogota, Colombia and Spanish is my first language, which has given me the opportunity to provide services in both English and Spanish languages. My client focus is inclusive of the LGBT population as well as of populations of diverse religious backgrounds, ethnicities and nationalities.

I completed my Pre-Doctoral Internship at The Renfrew Center of South Florida and provided services for women with eating disorders and co-morbid conditions. I completed my post-doctoral fellowship and first years in practice at an OCD specialty clinic working with individuals (children to older adults) whom presented with OCD and related conditions such as panic disorder, social anxiety, agoraphobia, and emetophobia.

I am very passionate about participating in supporting our community, and advocating for mental health treatment, education and outreach. Since 2011 I have participated in the planning of the annual Eating Disorders Awareness walk with The Alliance for Eating Disorder, and have been a member of the Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness outreach and educational committee. I also hold leadership positions for the board of Florida Psychological Association Broward Chapter and for the board of iaedp (International Association for Eating Disorder Professionals) South Florida Chapter.

Carolina Gaviria, LMHC, NCC, CEDS

I’m a bilingual/Spanish licensed mental health counselor, a national certified counselor, and a certified eating disorders specialist who is committed to helping and supporting children, teens, and adults find freedom and inner peace from their eating disorder, depression, anxiety, and trauma.

I understand the concern about a loved one’s well-being when they are sad and anxious sometimes restricting, binging, and purging, or using drugs to self-medicate. I know how difficult it is for that person to just stop or change, especially when they don’t really know how. This is why I focus not only on the problem but also the solution teaching clients coping strategies and new ways of seeing the situation they are in. Depression and anxiety can create a cyclic pattern very difficult to break and eating disorders and addictions can become a very unhealthy coping mechanism to deal with inner pain.

As the co-founder of Home for Balance Psychotherapy Group, LLC and the Food & Mood Institute, I strongly believe in full recovery and the power of family and team work. I have over 19 years of experience as a mental health counselor and I currently practice in the Coconut Creek and Ft. Lauderdale areas in South Florida where I have offices. I also offer services online via secure platform.

During the past 12 years I have specialized in the diagnosis and treatment of eating disorders, addictions and trauma. I also sit at the board of the International Association for Eating Disorders Professionals South Florida Chapter (iaedp South Florida), and have presented at numerous conferences on the impact of eating disorders.

I’m committed to support individuals and families affected by eating disorders, and serve as a catalyst for education, prevention, and access to quality care. In my private practice I hold sessions in both, English and Spanish, and offer flexible hours. I’m very approachable and provide a safe and comfortable environment for clients to be themselves, while fully exploring the concerns that bring them to counseling. I’m also aware that every individual is different and offer a unique approach to counseling to help you achieve your goals.

Please give me a call today for a FREE 30 minute consult at 561.305.2497, I’d be happy to provide more information about my services and discuss setting up a session! Yaneth Beltran, RD/LDN

I take a holistic approach to wellness by providing nutritional counseling to clients that want to establish a healthy relationship with food. I am a compassionate person, who believes in the power of the therapeutic relationship between clients and professionals. I guide and support clients in the process of finding balance within their bodies and lives. I help them to understand their issues from a nutritional perspective, by counseling them and encouraging them to learn better ways to relate to their bodies.

I have 20 years of experience in the assessment and treatment of clients with different nutritional needs. I was employed at a local treatment facility for eating disorders for 10 years providing nutrition counseling to patients and their families.  I hosted bilingual webinars, monthly presentations to family members, and participated in some research.  Most recently, I became the Director of Nutritional Services at a local facility for the treatment of OCD. There, I developed a nutrition program for residents staying at the Ranch and those receiving Intensive and OP treatment. I provide accurate nutrition counseling to improve eating habits of patients, monitoring patient’s progress in order to ensure that their nutritional requirements are being met in accordance with their pathologies and current needs. In this professional process, I specialize in the treatment of OCD, anxiety disorders and other comorbid diagnosis like Body dysmorphic disorder. I empower patients to develop a healthy relationship with food and their bodies.

I have experience not only in individual nutritional counseling, but also in group counseling. I provide nutrition education in group settings as well as educating clients in advanced meal planning, lunch group support, cooking group, supermarket tour, and mindful eating. I was a key speaker at a national Seminar in 2011 and facilitated “Hot Topics in Nutrition Education”.  I also presented at the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (iaedp) Symposium this year. I am a member of the Iaedp board South Florida Chapter and the cofounder of The Mood & Food Institute, LLC. I am passionate for counseling and motivating clients to improve their lifestyles with healthy meal plans.  I believe that while it is important to help clients recognize and change negative patterns of behaviors connected to food, it is important to help people build on their strengths by supporting them and encouraging them through a trusting relationship.
